The YCCC has over 300 members of all ages and skill levels, who collaboratively host hundreds of trips, training and social events during the paddling season and throughout the year! YCCC trips and training are for beginners through advanced paddlers interested in flatwater (lake) or whitewater (river) paddling. In 2010, we held 250 club events!
Where does the YCCC paddle? Quick answer: wherever there is water and access! YCCC Canoe Trips explore waterways in Ontario and Quebec. YCCCers paddle in other Provinces and Territories and USA waterways.
Flatwater or Lake trips are often to Parks such as: Gatineau, Algonquin, La Verendrye, Frontenac, Mattawa, Voyageur, Bon Echo, Charleston Lake, Fitzroy Harbour, French River (out to Georgian Bay), Killarney, Temagami, Round Lake, Adirondaks. Other destinations include places like Rideau or the Tay Rivers, Burrits Rapids, Schooner lake, 31 Mile Lake, Lac Vert, Lac des Escaliers, Lac Poisson Blank, Lac Philippe, Meech Lake... or accessible waterways via back roads in Lanark, Frontenac, Renfrew and other nearby counties... the list goes on! Many of these trips are great for beginner level paddlers. Some of the trips are identified for paddlers who have a higher level of skill.
Whitewater or River trips depend on water levels in spring, summer and fall. River trips throughout the paddling season are held on the Ottawa, Madawaska, Petite Nation, Gatineau...or further afield on the Dumoine, Petawawa, Rouge, Noire, Coulonge, Lievre, Gens de Terre to name a few. Spring river outings often include the rivers accessed off of Highway 7 and 17, e.g. the Salmon, Skootamata as well as small fun runs on the Carp, Jock, Beaver, Indian...the list goes on! Many of the trips are great for beginner level paddlers, some of the trips are for intermediate or advanced paddlers.
