Family Camp Beginner Level Tandem

(Paddle Canada Lake Canoe Skills Introduction Tandem)

Objective: Teach paddling in a family atmosphere with parents and children participating together.  There will be time for other camp activities including swimming, archery, hiking and campfires. The standard Paddle Canada program will be followed. This course is designed to introduce the inexperienced canoeist to paddling. The emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of canoeing along with a strong grounding in water safety and safe canoeing practices. This course provides a standard certification of competence for tandem flatwater paddling.

Duration: Friday, August 20 (10 am) to Sunday, August 22 (noon), 2010

Cost: Camp and course fee $25 total per person no matter if you participate in one beginner course or both.

Canoe rental cost (if required): Canoe rental $30 per person.  We will use boats from Gracefield.  Those who need canoe rentals must add their rental cost to the $25 course/camping fee.  For example, a parent and teen needing canoe(s) and doing both beginner courses would cost $25+$25+$30+$30+$20+$20= $150.  A parent and child needing a canoe and doing only the beginner tandem course would cost $25+$25+$30+$30= $110

Description: This course will take place at Gracefield Christian Camp near Gracefield, Quebec.  The site has a grassy field for tents, a picnic shelter, flush-toilet washrooms, and a shower.  Ample dock space, a sandy beach, hiking trails, a play structure and an archery range are nearby. Each family will be responsible for its own tent, food, drinking water and transportation. This is a "parent and child" event and children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Of interest to: Families who would like to learn together and have a relaxing camp experience.

Prerequisite: Must be at least 8 years old.  Must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or be at least 18 years of age.
