Example Flatwater Day or Evening Trip Checklist

 

Preparations at the Shed

 

1.     Confirmation of shed combination (obtain at least one day before from shed co-ordinator)

2.     First Aid kit + Hypothermia kit or use camping gear (if water under 15C)

3.     Sign up of participants and contact numbers

a.     YCCC membership

b.     Waiver signing (Risk and Release Form) by guests (to be mailed to Membership Co-ordinator)

4.     Trade cell phone numbers – use if lost

5.     Designation of guardian angel – contact if lost or emergency (search and rescue)

6.     Drivers ensure canoes firmly affixed to cars

7.     Pairing of members

a.     For driving

b.     For paddling (one experienced paddler per canoe where feasible)

8.     Equipment reservation and signout

a.     Number of canoes required and obtained

b.     Sign out canoes in book and trip sheet

c.     Sign out of other club equipment taken

 

Group Meeting at Shed

 

1.     Introduction of participants – identify new members, ensure all paired up

2.     Safety briefing (unless to be done at put-in)

3.     Check that each paddler has water and food – Gorp, lunch/dinner (if needed)

4.     Coverage for damage to boats – standard unless people opt out

a.     First $200 – those in club boat

b.     Rest shared by those renting

c.      Participate in repair work

d.     Those with own boat bear cost of damage

5.     Mileage cost sharing (club suggested rates)

a.     Determine if collected by leader or determined with driver

6.     Review of paddle routes

a.     Paddling distance

b.     Portages – number and approx. Distances

7.     Review driving route and meeting points (major turns and rest stops)

8.     Itinerary

a.     Departure

b.     Canoe start (approx.)

c.      Expected return time

9.     Before departure, notify guardian angel of number of participants, trip routing and expected return time.

 

End of Trip

 

1.     Trip leader collects rental fees.

2.     Trip leader notifies guardian angel of trip return.

3.     Trip leader pays boat rental fees on line.

4.     Trip leader mails trip form to Treasurer, and any waiver forms to Membership Coordinator. (addresses are on the forms)
