How to get to start and finish of trip

(Car access): Take road 17 west through Pembroke. Take road towards Achray. Leave shuttle car at Squirrel Rapids. Launch canoes at Achray. After Thanksgiving Achray access road is closed 1 km before the put-in (mandatory portage).

Canoe Route:

Achray - Grand Lake- 50 yd portage - Stratton Lake - 50 yd portage - St. Andrews Lake - 600 yd portage - Highfalls Lake - 300 yd portage - Ooze Lake - 700 yd portage - Opalescent Lake - 800 yd portage - Brigham Lake - 110 yd portage - small pond - 480 yd portage - Barron River - 460 yd portage - Barron River - Squirrel Rapids.

Comments on Portages:

Numerous, a total distance of 3 1/4 km, none, however, are over 800 meters.

Comments on Rapids:

all portaged around.

Comments on Campsites:

(Limitations, General Location): Fairly numerous until the Barron River. On the Barron River there are only two. Since this route is popular with the public, there may be a shortage of campsites.

Points of interest:

The 100 m deep Barron River Canyon is spectacular.
