Getting There
Drive north on Highway 105. Pass through Wakefield, Alcove, and Farrelton. Turn off 105 at Low. Drive about 500 meters after leaving 105, reaching the centre of the village of Low. There will be an intersection; a right turn goes to the Paugan Falls Dam. Continue past this intersection for about 500 metres and turn right onto the gravel road. The put-in is just less than a kilometer along this roadOn the Water
Paddle out of the sheltered cove from the put-in. Go left (north) when you reach the main body of water. Beware of several things. First, you are just upstream of a hydro-electric station, and should be cautious about unpredictable currents. Second, the Gatineau until very recently was used to transport logs to the mills in Gatineau. There may be many deadheads. The sheet of water you are canoeing on is a natural reservoir, and these often have unpredictable shoals and rocks. Finally, like any large body of water, this reservoir can produce sizeable waves.
There are lots of bays and islands to explore. The swimming can be very good. When you are finished, return to the cars.
