Work-in-progress - About a one hour drive from Ottawa

Mississippi Take out is located take-out on County Road 12 on river left, just a few hundred meters east of the junction with Iron Mine Road. It is usual to leave a shuttle vehicle there. From there proceed up Side Road yy to the put-in (bridge at Sheridan Rapids).

ROUTE DIRECTIONS - FROM OTTAWA

1. Highway #7 west through Carleton Place.

2. 12 km after Carleton Place and after you pass a window factory on one side and Lanark Cedar on other there is a right turn at St. Johns Anglican Church onto County Road #15 to Lanark. It is well marked.

3. After 3 sets curves in road or 5km there is a strange intersection at the top of a hill. The road curves left past a converted old school house at County Rd. 12 and you turn right onto a paved road. There are signs to Lanark Gravel and Wheelerís Pancake House. This Road #12 is also called the Pine Grove Rd. and is just past the gravel road also turning right.

4. You will arrive at the Town of Lanark 11km later where there is a stop sign. Go straight ahead for about 50 metres. Then the main road turns right at a Bank but you need to veer to the left (back onto County Rd. 12, McDonalds Crs. Road). Be careful here as it seems you are the one going straight but actually you are making a left turn and need to signal and watch for traffic.

5. After about 6 km you'll arrive at the take-out just before the bridge (you see river on your left. Park take-out vechicle on left where banks aren't as steep. (Note: some spots are very difficult so we usually take out in middle of the Class 1 rapid after large rock in middle. To get to put-in continue driving in same direction. Cross the river (Mississippi) on the newish concrete bridge. Proceed another 4km. to the first road going right after the bridge (If you see gravel pits you have gone too far).

6. (not part of directions but an aside: People familiar with the route would probably take slightly shorter but rougher gravel shuttle road before bridge. This road travels parallel but not next to river and is called the Iron Mine Rd. )

7. Turn right on this road called Sheridan Rapids road or Con #5 Dalhousie. As I said it is your first road going right, gravel and about 4km distance past bridge over Mississippi. Drive about 2-3 km. Cross double bridges. This is "Sheridan Rapids" although rapids are up river and only easily accessible for running by private land.

8. Put-in is on right just immediately after and at the foot of second bridge. Do not park blocking put-in, which is also a boat launch.
