Route description: Petite Nation River

The Petite Nation is a nice spring and fall river with several canyon sections that make it scenic and fun.
There are 3 put-ins: A1 the upper canyon, which is usually not run at high water levels, A2 - just below the upper canyon, A3 the kayak school. Instructions for each put-in are provided below
Approximately 90km (one-way) from the shed
Get to Hwy 50 in Gatineau (Hull). Take hwy 50 east
Exit at Buckingham to Hwy 148 East
Drive on 148 east through Thurso and Plaisance to Papineauville.
Once in Papineauville, look for the signs to hwy 321.
The turn off to hwy 321 is at a stop light. Turn left (north). The city street name of highway 321 at this junction is Henri Bourassa
Access to A1: drive north on hwy 321, across a bridge over the Petite Nation. As youre driving up a hill (~7km from the turn-off), look for a guard rail on your left hand side. Youll notice a small sign for the fire trucks to pump water out of the river. The river is parallel to the road at this point. This is the put-in for A1.
Access to A2 and A3: Follow directions for A1, but drive past that access point for another 500m until you reach rang Saint Joseph Ouest. Turn left onto rang Saint Joseph Ouest. Its the first left after crossing the bridge. Youll probably see signs for Aquaventure Petite Nation kayak school.
Access to A2: approximately 0.4km on Saint Joseph is a small flat access point on your left. This will fit around 3 cars. Temporarily park your cars and unload your boats. There is a farm house just down the road on the right. Thats the put-in parking spot (directions below). The boats and gear need to be portaged 500m to the river which is not visible from the road.
Access to A3: continue past this access another 200m to a private road. The road has a mailbox with #450 on it. The Aquaventure sign is another marker for this road. You CANNOT drive down this road. Your gear must be portaged down to the road 500m to the river. The river is not visible from the road.
After dumping your gear at A2 or A3, park in front of the barn at the farm across the street. Parking is $3 per vehicle. You pay by knocking on the side door of the farm house. If no one is home leave the money on the ledge by the door.
Now arrange your shuttle..
The take-out is approximately 6km further down Saint Joseph. Turn left when the road ends at Rang. St Louis. Approximately 0.5km youll reach a bridge crossing the Petite Nation. Theres often room at the takeout, to park your car. A safer alternative is the park at the farm house just before the takeout. $5/car.
From the takeout, you can continue across the bridge on Rang St. Louis and turn left of Montee Papineau. Continue on Montee Papineau until it hits Hwy 148 at Plaisance
