Family Camp -- 24-26 August, 2012

 
 
Objective:
To teach paddling in a family atmosphere with parents and children participating together. 
There will be time for other camp activities including swimming, archery, hiking and campfires.
The standard Paddle Canada program will be followed.
 
 This course is designed to introduce the inexperienced canoeist to paddling.  
 
 
T he emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of canoeing along with a strong grounding in water safety and safe canoeing practices. This course provides a standard certification of competence for tandem flatwater paddling.

Duration:
Friday, August 24 (noon) to Sunday, August 26, 2012 

Cost:
Camp and course fee $25 per person ages 8 and up. 

Canoe rental cost (if required):
Canoe rental $25 per person.  We will use boats from Gracefield.
Those who need canoe rentals must add their rental cost to the $25 camp/course fee. 
A parent and teen needing a canoe would cost $25+$25+$25+$25= $100 

Description:
This course will take place at Gracefield Christian Camp near Gracefield, Quebec.
Each family will be responsible for its own food, drinking water and transportation.

ents are available or you may bring your own tent to put up on a platform.
We will make use of a sandy beach for swimming
We will camp at a "wilderness site" called Bruno's which is a 10 minute walk/paddle from the main camp.   It is quiet and beautiful. There are hiking trails.  There is road access but only one emergency car can remain at the site after gear drop-off. Parking is at the main camp.
Bruno's has an outhouse but no running water.
Food will be kept in food barrels (extras are available from the YCCC). 
If showers are required they are at the main camp.
Archery and a play structure are also located at the main camp. 
PFDs/Lifejackets must be worn by all participants while canoeing.  You may bring your own or use one from the camp. 
The course includes doing a canoe over canoe rescue.
A qualified lifeguard will be present at all times. 
Children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times. 
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
Limited space available.

Families who would like to learn together and have a relaxing camp experience. 

Prerequisite:
Must be at least 8 years old.  Must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or be at least 18 years of age. Families with younger siblings may inquire about whether they may attend.  Younger children will not be eligible for Paddle Canada Introduction Tandem training.
