The National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Canoe Camping Club (YCCC) has been offering low cost volunteer-driven canoe tripping and training since 1952. We run co-operative trips where everyone gets involved. Car pooling, environmentally friendly camping and safety are YCCC hallmarks.
Membership gives you access to our equipment (including our fleet of the latest in whitewater and flatwater canoes) & full access to our website where we post the information on hundreds of trips & training events with something for everyone: relaxed evening paddles, day trips, world-class training, easy-going weekends, extended wilderness expeditions.
The club currently has between 200 and 300 members. Members have over a hundred trips to chose from each season. Trips consist of weekend trips, some extended trips, and numerous day trips in either flatwater or whitewater. Nearby Meech Lake is a popular evening paddling destination for flatwater, and the rapids below Champlain Bridge for whitewater practices.
Members of the YCCC have also have access to the following club resources:
- The club newsletter is published regularly during the paddling season and contains trip reports, paddling tips, and a host of information of interest to paddlers
- Trip lists are available for flatwater and whitewater tripping throughout the season
- The Member's Handbook lists course, program and general trip information (a non-generic version is available on the club's secure website)
- The YCCC is run by volunteers for volunteers. This allows us to keep costs down and provides members the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the club, learn new skills and meet many other canoeists.
Ottawa is ideally situated near many superb canoeing destinations. Beautiful parks like Gatineau, Algonquin, La Verendrye, Frontenac as well as the Ottawa, Madawaska, Petawawa and Rideau Rivers are all within a short drive. Come and explore these and other wonderful wilderness areas with us!
